The Big Blue Barn of the Highway…

Tessa and Ann were working on a different project together, and they kept wondering why there wasn’t a craft brewery presence in Southeast MN that truly captured the essence of the small communities all over this region. The more they thought about it, the more they realized there is an opportunity here. Long time experts in the beer and hospitality industries, Ann Fahy-Gust and Tessa Leung decided that they were going to be the ones that deliver craft beer to the underserviced bars, restaurants, and liquor stores of Southeast MN.

The goal of South x SouthEast MN Brewing Co is to be the regional brewery for Southeast Minnesota, that provides traditional style, quality beer for every bar, tavern, restaurant, and liquor store in the area.

Our traditional style beer is approachable, balanced, and consistent. We achieve this without using extreme ingredients or flavorings, while reducing the environmental footprint of our business.

We believe our difference from other breweries in this region is our focus on a few core beers done with excellence and consistency. This allows our customers to recognize our beers no matter where they’re served. We have our focus on the entirety of Southeast Minnesota rather than an urban local focus on the surrounding metro areas.

The reason for the focus on Southeast Minnesota is two parts. First, we live, work, and enjoy life in this region. Second, we love this area, its people and sense of place.

Maxing Out in Just Over a Year

We opened our doors in September 2020 (insert cringe worthy face), and by the end of 2021 we are maxing out our 7BBL system. With capacity to do 815 barrels per year, we were at 95% capacity for 2021. We always knew that we were going to be expanding our production, that was the plan when we were purchasing this property, we were pleasantly surprised that it came this quick.
